Will Jetstress be updated for Exchange Server 2019?
Yes. However, the PG chose not to extend Jetstress functionality to cover MCDB (on Flash/SSD storage), therefore, Jetstress will only validate HDD performance for Exchange Server 2019.
What is JetStress? The JetStress tool (download) is a Microsoft supported tool that validates database hard drive performance before you install the Exchange Server application on a Windows Operating System. The tool has been around for a while and has lots of documentation on how to run it and obtain information on how well you can expect the mailbox performance of the servers to present data to end users.
The biggest push back I see is, when using a SAN environment, the SAN engineers usually say, ‘sure, you can test, just don’t do a full load while testing.’ Um…that’s the point of the test, to create load on the disk infrastructure before rolling out a production application. This is just one of the reasons the Exchange PG says to use commodity disks on dedicated servers. But it’s all choice. However, it is a good idea to test before rolling something into production. I guess people still ‘test’ everything in production and deal with it then.
